Ok guys…Prepare to have your collective minds blown!!
There’s an anime that, when it came out, people thought was one of the worst shows dubbed in the US. And given that it was shown alongside the likes of Outlaw Star, Trigun and Yu Yu Hakusho, I can see how people would come to that conclusion. But despite all of the hatred it spawned, I still found some enjoyment out of enjoyment out of watching it. That anime in question is Candidate for Goddess. Or, at it was known in the states:
That’s right folks. I actually loved the anime/manga that was never finished, spawned an OAV that produced more questions than answers and was just an utter mess in every way, shape & form. Well…let me be more specific. I loved the potential this show possessed to a top-tier mecha anime. It had an interesting premise, a tolerable, generic cast and decent CGI effects. Nothing ground breaking, but I’ve seen a lot worse than it. Heck, Dai-Guard was abotu as boring a show about mech as you could get, yet people liked that trash.
I think the main reason this show go so much flack was that it came out around the same time as those other big names. Even if it were to have been given a fair chance at being completed, I doubt people would’ve jumped on its bandwagon. Not only that, Zero Enna is kind of an unlikable main char. Even I got tired of his wide-eyed, overexcitable antics really quick. There’s only so much childlike whimsy I can stand from a character before I want to punch them in the face.
I think a lot of the hate would’ve been prevented had people read the manga. It does a WAY better job of explaining things and developing the world than the anime did. Despite, there is one thing that I think me and the haters can agree on: The OST for this show was awesome! It was an orchestrated masterpiece! Just the opening theme alone makes me wish I was a conductor!
Skip the anime itself if you want, but don’t skip this OST!
I’m NEETaku and that was Just…My 2 Cents!!!
