NEETaku’s 30 Day Anime Challenge Day 21: Anime Series Everyone’s Seen, But You Haven’t

Before I reveal my pick for today’s subject, I’m going to need you guys to promise not to get mad. This isn’t some willy nilly thing I’m asking. People have literally read me the riot act and flipped their collective lids when I’ve told them that I’ve never seen this particular anime series. So again, I’m going to need you guys to remain as calm as possible. Okay?

Okay..the anime I have never seen, but other people have, is:

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

DOGGONE IT!! I said don’t get mad!!! You promised!!

Look, anyone who’s anyone who’s anyone has heard of this show. It’s a suggestion many people give as a gateway anime for those looking to get into the medium. I’ve read reviews, watched videos and listened to analysis of the show. But…it just never appealed to me. Not that I’m not a fan of the slice of life genre, but nothing about Haruhi grabbed my attention. It just felt like another show set in high school that centered around the lives of high school kids. Whoopdy doo!

Am I calling it a bad show? No. From what I’ve heard and read most people consider it a masterpiece. But for me, it’s just another high school show. And I’m soooo tired of those.

I’m NEETaku and that was Just…My 2 Cents!

  1. Not saying you should watch it, but it isn’t Slice of Life and while it is set in a high school it is kind of more speculative than anything else. Still, you do have to put up with a lot of high school tropes so if it doesn’t appeal, it doesn’t appeal.

  2. I haven’t seen it either. It looks to be pretty much just about how crazy this girl is, and I’ve heard it has a really choppy narrative structure, so while it’s on my eventual “To Watch” list, it’s not exactly a high priority.
