Top 6 Scenes That Are WAY More Disturbing Than You Think

Our brains are both a gift and a curse. Especially the one rattling around in my head. Sometimes they can take a simple scene from a movie/TV show and TOTALLY blow it out of proportions to the point of personal disgust. Or, they can spare us from years of nightmare fuel by tricking us into thinking that said scene wasn’t that bad. And as the title states, I’m going to list 6 of the scenes you probably don’t remember being as dark as they actually were.

#6 Gohan’s Neck Being Broken

I’ve gone over this before, but it bears repeating. Gohan getting his neck broken by Recoome is one of the most MESSED UP scenes in anime history! With all the testosterone and ultra, mega uber attacks being flung around throughout the various DBZ series, it’s easy to forget that Gohan was a friggin toddler when he went to Namek! The kid was 5-7 years old at the time! How would you feel if you watched your kid sister/brother not only fight a muscle-bound 7 footer but also bear witness to their neck being snapped in two? Wouldn’t a pleasant sight, would it?

#5 Veruca Salt Falling Into The Furnace

Violet being juiced after being turned into a human blueberry. Augustus being drowned in a tube of milk chocolate. That friggin entire tunnel scene! There was a LOT of disturbing stuff in the OG Willy Wonka movie. But one scene that seems to slide up the radar is when Veruca is declared a ” bad egg”. Wonka informs her ad that all bad eggs go to the same place: The Furnace.

Let that sink in for a second. This pre-teen girl just plummeted down a tube to a fiery inferno with NO means of stopping her descent. Heck! The heat from the furnace would probably incinerate her before she even got there! What the everlasting heck, Wonka!?

#4 Drake’s Death (The Pebble and the Penguin)

The Pebble and the Penguin is a little-known film by Dob Bluth that I enjoyed quite a lot as a kid. I thought it had great animation, great music and a likable cast of characters. It was an all-around, wholesome movie…

That is…

Until I watched the Nostalgia Critic review it a while back. Near the end of the movie, the villain Drake tries to the hero Hubie with a boulder, causing his evil lair to collapse on top of him. The movie never explicitly shows him being crushed by it. Like actually seeing his being squished. But it is still a HORRIFIC way to go out. One that was made even more horrific by the NC when he added in blood to the scene. Not so wholesome now, is it?

#3 General Mandible’s Death (Antz)

Another underrated animated movie I watched as a kind was the movie Antz, starring Woody Allen and Sylvester Stallone. Unlike its competitor A Bug’s Life, the movie had a lot more adult humor and themes. And quite the potty mouth as well.

At the end of the film’s climax, the villain, General Mandible, plummets from the top of the colony straight own to a branch below. Needless to say, he does not survive. And how could he?! The guy LITERALLY lands smack on his head! No hands to break his fall at all! Just BAM!! Right on his face! Given it was a kid’s film, there wasn’t any sort of gore shown. But my idiotic head pictured the guy’s brains just exploding everywhere, mus to my dislike.

I hate my brain sometimes.

#2 The Boo Box (Hook)

Ya know….it suddenly dawned on me that my mother allowed me to watch some pretty messed up stuff as a kid. Might need to have a little chat with her later.

Anyways! In the movie Hook, Robin Williams’ character Peter is taken to Neverland by Tinker Bell to save his kids. On the way, we are introduced to Captain Hook as he’s gloating about his exploits in kidnapping Peter’s kids and killing Lost Boys. During his speech, he calls out one of the pirates that doubted he could do such things. The guy’s punishment? Being jammed into a waaay too small treasure chest called The Boo Box, and having live scorpions dropped inside of it!!!

HOLY CRAP!!

Even as a kid I could tell that was a dark scene! They just locked him in a box with no means to defend himself from 2 deadly scorpions! And no! We don’t hear from him again! It’s never brought up again for the entire movie! Curse you, Steven Spielberg!!

#1 The Shoe Death Scene (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)

………………………………………………

Do I even HAVE to explain what is messed up about this scene??! I mean, I’m going to anyway, but that’s beside the point!! Forget the fact that an innocent character was just killed before our very eyes! Forget the fact that those whimpers of pure terror will haunt your dreams for the rest of your life. No matter how hard it may be. The most disturbing part about this scene is that NO TRIED TO STOP THE GUY!!!

Not a single person stepped in to stop Judge Doom from offing this poor creature! Not Eddie. Not Roger. Not the other cops. NO ONE!!

As far as I’m concerned, they are ALL guilty of this shoe’s murder!

I’m NEETaku and that was Just…My 2 Cents!!!

  1. Children’s movies do have some fun and dark moments in them that when you think back you wonder if maybe you shouldn’t have watched it. That said, the shoe death in Who Framed Roger Rabbit always hurt. I really hate that scene.
