NEETaku Presents: SAO Alicization Breakdown – Episode 9

Holds your horses, folks! Hold your horses! Seems I jumped the gun a bit.

Keep Calm and Woosaaahh!

It seems I got the episode where the ” incident” happened wrong. Apparently it happens in episode 10, not 9. So huge post I had saved for that is gonna have to wait just for a bit longer.

That’s not to say there isn’t anything anger inducing and worth ranting about in this episode. Cause frankly….I WANT TO WATERBOARD RAIOS AND HUMBERT!!!

sao-alicization-7-4
MY GOSH I HATE THESE TWO!!

Bullying isn’t something new that happened during the Internet Age. I grew up in the 90s, ok? I’ve seen my fair share of over the top and stereotypical bully characters in my days. This trope can be done well depending on the situation and what sorta story you’re trying to tell. But these guys….they are soooooo teeth gratingly BASIC!!! It feels like Reiki Kawahara was dared by Stephen King to create an even more generic bully then him, and Reiki was like : Hold My Beer, son!

I don’t hate these guys for being bullies and sexual deviants. I didn’t feel angry when Humbert announced that he had his page massage him in the bath in her underwear. I was too busy rolling my eyes until they physically hurt from how one note they are!! Even the fight between Eugeo in Humbert felt paint by numbers. Who didn’t see through their ploy to goad Eugeo into doing something that would get him punished? Who wasn’t expecting Blonde Kirito to give him his comeuppins and showing him that he wasn’t as good as he thought. It was PAINFULLY PREDICTABLE!!

I know it might seem like I’m harping on about this more than I should. but that was basically the entire episode. Bulk and Skull act like douches, Blonde Kirito gets upset and regular Kirito tells him to ” Stay Cool”. Even that crap got old fast because it was spoken in horrible Engrish!! And again, it’s all just leading up to the Magnum Opus of these two dirtbags in episode 10. That’s literally all it’s building up: The  scene where we see just how evil these guys really are. BUT WE ALREADY KNOW THAT!! Even if you were coming into this episode with no knowledge of the sexual assault scene, you can tell just what scumbags Raios and Humbert are! Going so over the top to make them out to be the bad guys just speaks of lazy storytelling! Humbert already admitted to being a sexual deviant! There’s LITERALLY NOTHING ELSE THAT COULD HAPPEN TO MAKE ME HATE HIM MORE!!!

Hades Gif 3
AAAAAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Ok…ok…There are two other things of note to take away from this episode. During a picnic with Tiese and Ronie, the former of the two make it know to the guys about how Hunbert was abusing his page. It’s then that a discussion about circumnavigating the Taboo Index comes up. Apparently there are ways to commit wrongs that aren’t explicitly written out in it and, therefore, aren’t punishable by the system. This leads to an enjoyably thought provoking speech Kirito about how one shouldn’t just blindly follow the rules of law. That one must also introduce their own sense of morality and critically about what’s right and wrong. That is a very refreshing discussion to be had. Just because something isn’t explicitly outlawed doesn’t make it any less wrong. Morality and law go hand and hand. One cannot exist without the other. That’s what makes Bulk and Skull’s actions so unredeeming and heinous.

The other big moment in the show was a sorta confession by Tiese to Eugeo. She’s going to become the head of her household when she graduates and wants Eugeo to be there to possibly be her husband show she doesn’t end up with someone like Humbert. It’s a nice scene in and of itself, but it also raises the tension for the next episode if you know what’s to come. A nice way to wrap up the episode.

Woooo!!! I did NOT expect to go off on this episode like I ended up doing. Which makes me wonder how I’m going to handle episode 10 when watching it all the way through and not just for the big scene. Should be interesting to say the least.

I’m NEETaku and that was Just…My 2 Cents!!

NEETaku Presents: SAO Alicization Breakdown – Episode 6

Just like I expected this episode was a huge exposition dump of sorts. Not much progress in the overall story occurred involving Kirito and Eugeo trying to rescue Alice. It mostly focused on Asuna trying to get info on how her husbando was doing. I’ll do my best to summarize things, but don’t get your hopes up. There’s a lot of WTH being talked about and left me with a ton of questions.

original

First off, this Kiouka guy has apparently been watching too much Gundam Wing cause his plan seems entirely ripped from that show. Replace human soldiers with AI/robotic ones so no more loved need die in war. That’s his whole deal. At least for now. And though I can understand where he;’s coming from, I don’t quite understand how he thinks this will work out in his favor. These Fluctlights were able to LITERALLY WIPE OUT murder and most other crimes simply by creating the Taboo Index. What makes this military guy think they won’t write some code that will make his or anyone else’s orders null & void to them? HAS ANYONE NOT SEEN THE MATRIX, DANG IT!? WHY DO YOU PEOPLE KEEP WANTING TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN!!? XD

Of course little Miss High Horse Asuna jumped into the fray and spouted some BS about how using AI for war was morally wrong and they should be able to choose their own lives and BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! Again, I get where she’s coming from, but it’s still stupid. They aren’t human: They’re lines of code and junk. Unless they can somehow overtake actual humans and use their bodies, having them be killed harms NO ONE! They are just like the Mobile Dolls from Gundam Wing.

And as asinine as her little soap box sermon was, that wasn’t event he dumbest thing Asuna said in that whole episode. Apparently she and Kirito HARBOR NO ANIMOSITY AGAINST KAYABA! I-I…I mean what? WHAT?I!! The guy literally put you through mental and physical Hell for his own selfish goals, killed thousands of people during that time and is always managing to worm his way into every other situation that happens in your life….and you look back on those times with fond memories?!!

woosah-gif-bad-boys-2

Can someone please check this girl for PTSD symptoms or something? I can understand forgiving people, but this is going a bit too far. It’s like Reiki is going out of his way to make Asuna dumber and dumber the more she clings on to Kirito. Regardless, that’s about it for this episode. Hopefully more happens in the next one.

NEETaku Presents: SAO Alicization Breakdown – Episode 5

Well…that was certainly slow and boring.

giphy

This episode was definitely one of those palette cleansing episodes. The type that’s supposed to give the audience a chance to breath and let the event f the previous episode/s sink in. Nothing against those types of episodes but, much like this one, they can sometimes be quite forgettable.

Asuna and the Scorned Lovers Quartet show up in yet another cafe/bar/restaurant setting(seriously, do these people never hang out at each others homes?) to discuss Kirito’s injury and subsequent disappearance. We are treated again to a flash back of Kirito being done in by Death Gun which annoyed me all over again. Still don’t know how he was injected with whatever substance when he had a reach advantage, but I digress. This episode basically followed the girls around as they searched for where Kirito is. And…that’s about it. It didn’t even fell like a full episode. I’m surprised 20+ minutes passed by after it was done.

sao-alicization-ep-5-2

The only interesting parts about this episode was how Asuna and this Riko chick infiltrated the sea base that Kirito is being held at. They have the ability to find and mess with a person’s soul and enough security measures to rival Fort Knox, yet a simple hack and a blonde wig is enough to fool everyone!! That…is just pathetic.

I’m sure there’s going to be an exposition dump of some kind coming in the next episode. Hopefully I’ll have more to say. I’m NEETaku and this was Just…My 2 Cents!!
